900-7 — Oceanfront Penthouse Surfside Oceanfront Condos · Sleeps 6 · $214.56/night

The penthouse. Apartment 900-7 is the flagship of our Playa Caracol portfolio: a direct oceanfront penthouse in the Surfside Oceanfront Condos community, with a wide private terrace fronting the beach. Floor-to-ceiling glass means the ocean is the first thing you see each morning and the last at night — and when it's time to sleep, the waves do the rest. The living space is furnished for entertaining and quiet relaxation alike, with a full kitchen, comfortable lounge, and dining area oriented toward the view. The pools and a fire pit sit directly in front of the building with the sand beach just beyond, and shops, amenities, and a beach club are on the first floor — everything is one elevator ride away.

The terrace is the heart of the unit — large enough for outdoor dining at sunset. Playa Caracol sits on a peninsula removed from Panama City's light dome, giving a darkness that is increasingly rare. Dark-sky stargazing is one of the fastest-growing travel trends of 2026 (Forbes, The Economist). On a new-moon night you can see the Milky Way without leaving your unit. During the day, the terrace is a front-row seat for watching humpback whales (July–October), cargo ships transiting the Pacific, and seabirds riding the thermals offshore.

Sleeping & layout: Master bedroom queen bed with TV (direct Pacific views); second bedroom is a lock-off with king bed and TV; living area sleeper couch. Sleeps up to 6. Full kitchen, in-unit washer/dryer.

Amenities: Direct oceanfront · private terrace · pools and fire pit in front of the building, sand beach beyond · ground-floor shops, amenities, and beach club · Pacific views from master bedroom · full kitchen · washer/dryer · fast WiFi (100+ Mbps) · air conditioning + ceiling fans · smart TV · iron · resort pools, sports courts · beachside BBQ grills (reservable via MUNILY) · beach gear (chairs, umbrella, cooler, cart) · secure parking · near fish markets and fruit & vegetable stands.

C13-PBB — Horseshoe Villa The Residences · Sleeps 6 · $196.13/night

The villa. Unlike a standard hotel room, C13-PBB is a full residence with separate bedrooms, a living area, a kitchen, and a dining table that looks straight out to the Pacific. Set as the back villa in a horseshoe of five, it has direct ocean views from deep within the Residences community. That layout is what makes a four-plus-night stay genuinely comfortable rather than merely tolerable. The garden setting keeps the unit cooler and quieter than an upper floor, while being 15 steps from a semi-private pool (shared with only four other villas), 40 steps from the Vento Beach Club, and 45 steps from the sand gives you pool, beach club, and beach all on your doorstep. At night, close enough to hear the surf, the waves put you to sleep. The second bedroom opens through its own patio door onto mountain views and doubles as a workspace with a small desk and rolling office chair. The master bedroom also has a patio door, letting you step outside to enjoy the Pacific breeze and garden setting right from your room.

Sleeping & layout: Master bedroom king bed (direct Pacific views, patio door); second bedroom queen bed (with small desk, rolling office chair, patio door, and mountain views); living area sleeper couch. Sleeps up to 6. Full kitchen, in-unit washer/dryer, dedicated workspace. Dining table with direct Pacific views.

Amenities: Horseshoe villa with direct ocean view · 45 steps to the sand beach · 40 steps to Vento Beach Club · 15 steps to the semi-private pool (shared with only 4 other villas) · Pacific views from master bedroom and dining table · master bedroom patio door · second-bedroom patio door with mountain views · full kitchen · washer/dryer · fast WiFi (100+ Mbps) · small desk + rolling office chair (workspace) · air conditioning · smart TV · iron · sports courts · beachside BBQ grills (3 stations at the Residences, reservable via MUNILY — steps from your door) · beach gear (chairs, umbrella, cooler, cart, sand toys) · secure parking · pet-friendly on request · near fish markets and fruit & vegetable stands.

Why families choose this villa. A washer/dryer and full kitchen are the amenities that matter most on stays longer than a few nights, and a dedicated workspace plus reliable WiFi make remote work and remote school feasible. We stock beach gear in-unit so you don't rent or carry it. The villa is also very close to several fish markets and fruit and vegetable stands — cook fresh-caught seafood and local produce in your own kitchen. Pet-friendly on request — one of the few in our portfolio.

Good to know: Check-in 4:00 PM, check-out 11:00 AM. Weekly and monthly discounts for 7+ nights. Early check-in/late checkout available as add-ons. Book direct for the best rate.

Playa Caracol resort on Panama's Pacific coast — seven miles of beach.

The Arco Seco Advantage

More sun. Less rain. Wildlife that exceeds Costa Rica.

Playa Caracol sits in Panama's Arco Seco (Dry Arc), a region that receives significantly less rainfall than the rest of the country — even during rainy season. And Panama's biodiversity outperforms Costa Rica across every measure.

Arco Seco Climate

The Arco Seco stretches from Punta Chame to Punta Mala, receiving under 55 inches of rain annually vs 100+ inches elsewhere in Panama. Even during the rainy season (May to mid-December), mornings are typically sunny and beautiful, with possible showers later in the day.

This means more beach days, more sun, and more reliable weather year-round compared to other tropical destinations. Panama also sits outside the hurricane belt — no storm season to disrupt your travel plans.

Wildlife & Biodiversity

Panama is a biological land bridge between North and South America, hosting species from both continents. The wildlife diversity exceeds Costa Rica:

1,020+ Bird species
(Costa Rica: ~942)
7+ Monkey species
(Costa Rica: 4)
760 Fish species
around Coiba Island
10,000+ Plant species
in Panama

At Playa Caracol, guests can spot humpback whales (July–October), sea turtles nesting, tropical birds, and more — all from a seven-mile beach on the Pacific coast.

Full-Day Trip

Gamboa rainforest tram & the Panama Canal

Glide over the rainforest canopy in the morning, watch ships pass through the Miraflores Locks in the afternoon, and be back at Playa Caracol in time for sunset. It’s one of the easiest big days out from the beach.

  • Driving About 1 hr 25 min to Gamboa, 20 min on to the canal, 1 hr 20 min home
  • Best days Tuesday to Sunday — the tram is closed Mondays
  • Budget About $50 per adult for the tram and $17 for the canal; less for children
  1. 7:15 am
Leave Playa Caracol. Allow a little extra time around Arraiján and the Bridge of the Americas, the slowest part of the drive.
  2. 9:00 am
Arrive in Gamboa. Check in at the Gamboa Rainforest Reserve tour desk.
  3. 9:30 am
Aerial tram and observation tower. Ride a gondola through the treetops, then climb a 30-meter tower for views over the Chagres River, the Panama Canal, and Soberanía National Park. About 1 hour 15 minutes. Mornings are best for spotting birds, sloths, and monkeys.
  4. 11:30 am
    Lunch in Gamboa.
  5. 1:00 pm
Drive to the Miraflores Locks. Just 20 minutes away.
  6. 1:30 pm
Miraflores Visitor Center. Your ticket includes a 45-minute 3D IMAX film on the canal, narrated by Morgan Freeman. Then head to the viewing platform to watch ships rise and fall through the locks — afternoons often bring a steady line of vessels.
  7. 3:30 pm
Head back to the beach. Home around 5:00 pm, with time for a swim before sunset.

Good to know

  • Reserve the tram ahead — time slots are limited. Book through Gamboa Rainforest Reserve.
  • Canal tickets and ship schedules are on the official Visit Canal de Panamá site. Ship traffic varies day to day.
  • Bring insect repellent, sunscreen, water, comfortable shoes, and binoculars if you have them.
  • Prices are approximate — please confirm when you book.
Full-Day Trip

Casco Viejo, Panamá Viejo & the Amador Causeway

Two old cities in one day. Start at the ruins of Panamá Viejo, the first Spanish city on the Pacific coast of the Americas, then wander the cobblestone streets and plazas of Casco Viejo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Finish with skyline views on the Amador Causeway on your way back to the beach.

  • Driving About 1 hr 45 min to Panamá Viejo, 20 min on to Casco Viejo, about 1 hr 30 min home
  • Best days Tuesday to Sunday — Panamá Viejo and the Canal Museum are closed Mondays
  • Budget About $15 per adult for Panamá Viejo and $15 for the Canal Museum; less for children
  1. 7:30 am
Leave Playa Caracol. Allow a little extra time around Arraiján and the Bridge of the Americas.
  2. 9:15 am
Panamá Viejo ruins. Walk the stone remains of the original Panama City, founded in 1519 and sacked by the pirate Henry Morgan in 1671. Allow about 1½ hours, including the site museum.
  3. 11:00 am
Drive to Casco Viejo. About 20 minutes along the Cinta Costera waterfront. Parking inside the old town is tight; the Plaza V Centenario lot is an easy option.
  4. 11:30 am
Lunch at the Mercado de Mariscos. Panama City’s fish market sits at the edge of Casco Viejo. Grab fresh ceviche from the stalls or sit down at the seafood restaurant upstairs.
  5. 12:45 pm
Walk Casco Viejo. Visit Plaza de la Independencia and the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Golden Altar at Iglesia de San José (the altar that survived Morgan’s raid), and Plaza de Francia with its bay views. Browse for a Panama hat along the way.
  6. 2:00 pm
Panama Canal Museum. On Plaza de la Independencia, the museum tells the story of the canal and of Panama through photos, documents, and artifacts. Plan on about an hour.
  7. 3:15 pm
Coffee break. Try a cup of Panama’s famous Geisha coffee at one of Casco Viejo’s cafés.
  8. 4:00 pm
Amador Causeway. This 6 km road out into the Pacific was built from rock dug out of the Panama Canal. Stroll or rent a bike for views of the city skyline and ships waiting to enter the canal.
  9. 5:00 pm
Head back to the beach. The causeway is right by the Bridge of the Americas, so you’re already on your way home.

Good to know

  • Panamá Viejo is open Tuesday to Sunday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm; the ticket office closes at 4:30 pm. Details on the Patronato Panamá Viejo site.
  • The Panama Canal Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and sells tickets online.
  • Want to add the Biomuseo, the colorful Frank Gehry building on the causeway? It closes at 3:00 pm, so visit it before lunch and trim your time at Panamá Viejo.
